Fall 2024 Graduate Student Opportunity in Cryosphere and Hydrology at the University of Oregon

I am currently recruiting a graduate student to start in the Department of Geography at the University of Oregon in Fall 2024. Preference will be given to PhD applicants but MS students are also welcome to apply. If you’re interested in using novel remote sensing techniques to study hydrology or the cryosphere, please reach out to me at scooley2 [at] uoregon.edu. Potential projects include using Planet Labs CubeSat imagery to research lake ice breakup in Alaska, using SWOT, Sentinel-2 and ICESat-2 data to understand changes in surface water storage and/or mapping of long-term changes in sea ice surrounding Arctic communities. Projects may potentially nclude fieldwork in the Arctic (or elsewhere) for students who are interested. For more information, see my research pages, or email me and I’d be happy to chat! You can also check out the resource pages on this website for more advice about applying to graduate school.

Eugene is an awesome place to live. It is less than an hour from the ocean, close to hour to skiing and a little over an hour to the high peaks of the Cascades, and has an excellent food and music scene. Between the Department of Geography and the Department of Earth Sciences at UO, there is a lot of expertise in remote sensing and climate change research.
